Sally (UK, 13 Mar, 2008): We have been skiing all over the world and normally go B & B so that we can sample the local restaurants, but this year we were able to get a good deal on half board with Ski Direct.

Best choice ever! The Hotel Village Montana was GREAT! Really comfortable and well placed in the resort so easy to ski to and from. The staff were extremely professional and very friendly and the rooms spacious, all with a balcony and mountain views. For a family the outdoor pool is lovely and the slopes are right beside the hotel for those evening bum board and toboggan races.

AND THE FOOD!!!! Every night there is a fantastic 5-course meal with choices for main meal and starters, and only 32 Euros! You can also go to the yummy traditional fondue/raclette restaurant down stairs (included in the price), and there is an a la carte restaurant too where you pay extra and they deduct your dinner allowance, though to be honest we never went to it as the food in the other 2 restaurants was SO GOOD!

My sister was in the same resort with her husband and 2 kids in a pokey chalet with 24 other people and a chalet maid who cooked one meal a night (no options) and no facilities 1/2 mile from the town centre, they went out for a fondue which was more expensive than our hotel and they found disappointing, and they were gutted when we worked out that for pretty much the same cost they could have stayed at our hotel.

With regards to the resort we found the skiing excellent for intermediate and experts with a huge ski area, OK for beginners, disappointing on apr?s ski and limited on general restaurants.

We always like to try different resorts, if I could have put this hotel in my suitcase to take with us on our next holiday I would have!

marc green (scotland, 13 Apr, 2007): Went to tignes in jan 2004 and jan 2005.first year group of 4 stayed in val claret right next to slopes.snow was amazing although the visibility was very poor due to snowing constantly.we tended to only use the slopes near to our hotel due to the fact that we were just beginners. The fact that we came back a second year tells how good the resort is.The 2nd year 7 of us stayed in le lavachet above scotties bar i think. We saw a lot more of the resort this year even venturing over to val for a few days.found an amazing run down into solais thru a valley down from the top of the borsat express. The only thing that lets this resort down is the price of everything.food can be cheap if you find the right place but drink is expensive wherever you go.?4 upwards for a beer is normal same for spirits.we learnt this after first year and got a filling station at base of mountain for cheap booze.Any1 going here though has to experience 2 things. the first is desperados which is french beer with tequila, best served ice cold. the second is the blue girl nightclub,2years and i dont remember being in it once which must be good.

Mike (Boston, USA, 14 Jan, 2007): I went with friends in February 2006 and it was brilliant. Snow the first two days meant fresh powder on Grande Motte and near Toviere. The off-piste skiing was fantastic, the scenery was smashing, the lift technology was brand-new (and far ahead of American resorts), and the nightlife was like nothing I'd experienced before (especially because I was a 16-year-old at the time, and i'd never been allowed in bars before...) All around, somewhere I really need to get back to. I'm almost afraid to go again, for fear it won't be as good as the first time.

james (bristol england, 22 Jun, 2006): Went in January 2006. Good skiing great night life just a shame the airwaves festival was on. Briliant shows on the night but the skiier taking part were arsey about us using the funparks if we were not in the compatition. If you want to use the funparks make sure you don't book when the airwaves is in town (only complaint). Revolution 2 is an excelent company to deal with; huge amount of activities to do and the staff were extremely helpful when one of our party had problems, even letting us change activeties without extra charge. Diving under the ice in Lac De Tignes great fun and the horse riding is highly recomended. Would go again.

Luke (London, 26 Mar, 2006): We went during Late Janurary. Most of my time was spent with a group of boarders and skiing instuctors going full throttle. If you think you can cover the whole of the espace killy region in under 5 days bring it. We couldnt.

The area including Val is huge. We had no fresh snow (very unlucky for us), but the off peiste in normal conditions would have been really good.

The sun hits the Val d'isere slopes in the morning so if you have the entire espace killy pass i'd go there in the morning and then hit the tignes slopes in the afternoon. There are some amazing pow runs even when the snow conditions are poor if you are prepared to hike up really high.

Basically its a high, great resort with pretty well guaranteed snow, and you really won't get bored. Its what im hoping all my future trips live up to.

Richard Wratten (Wales, 10 Jul, 2005): With an extensive network of varied and challenging runs, quick uplift and excellent uplift, why would you want to go anywhere else? You want to go somewhere else because Tignes is ugly, rammed full of Brits and expensive.

Sure, some of the off piste is fantastic- I have some great memories of bouncing around L'Espace Killy after a dump, but the problem is it will all be tracked out within a day or two. Its not like going on holiday- you are surrounded by British pillocks with bad manners and even worse technique. Whilst its true that some of the lifts are world class- take the Grande Motte funicular or the Olympique cable out of Val for examples, a large proportion are utterly useless- ie those in the Aigulle du Peclet sector, where all of the chairs are sluggish and uncomfortable.

In the Holidays the place is full to bursting, lift lines are substantial and the prices explode. And then comes its appearance. If there were an award for ruining a pristine mountain environment, Tignes would win hand down. It looks like a late sixties high rise council estate. And why on earth did they draw that cheesy picture of a bloke on the front of the dam?

I could go on, and I will... Why do so many people carry trancievers when they are only skiing on piste? Why did I see an instructor (ESF, granted) on straights? Why do I feel like I am in the commuter belt and not the Alps when I go?

If you have no imagination, go to Tignes. You will be in good company and probably enjoy it. If you do, go somewhere else. (but not Megeve-thats useless too). Look at Pralognan, Ste Foy, Le Corbier, Val Cenis, La Giettaz, Le Grand Bornand, Serre Chevalier, Les Carroz or La Clusaz and you will get excellent skiing (although not as much of it), offpiste that remains untracked for weeks, pretty villages and (shock horror) a taste of France. Which is what skiing should be about. Not showing off in overpriced mountain restaurants. Rant Over.

will weynberg (england, 17 Jan, 2005): Excellent resort. totally awesome. going back next year. my favourite run is double m off the glacier. awesome.

Niek (Nederland, 15 Nov, 2004): You really have to go to the " yeti " bar. It's totally improved this year. They have two floors now. Up is relaxing to drink and eat and downstairs it's PARTY. All kinds of theme party's and good prices. Especially if you come with groups. Go there and taste the fun inside...

Adie (Bradford England, 1 Nov, 2004): If you ever go to Tignes youve gota check out the Red Lion bar!! the most crazy shots you can imagine, from tomato vodka to beef stew vodka! this bar is insane!wicked party place. Id say best bar and night out in Tignes

Shannon Burch ( 17 Aug, 2004): Hotel Les Campanules in Tignes has the best food and most gracious service of any comparably priced hotel I've been at in France. You usually get real tableside service rather than the buffet style becoming more and more commonplace at resorts (with exceptions such as a fruits del mar buffet). And it's proper French food, no soggy English bacon and eggs for breakfast. Even the cabbie who dropped us off said the restaurant was great. Accomodations are about what you'll expect, standard rooms and jacuzzi and such, but the food really makes this place a standout.

Kevin Nelson (Hayling Island UK, 26 Jan, 2004): LA PIGNATTA - Italian Restaurant - We took about 30 people there on 22nd Jan 2004 - great food, great service and all round good time

MARRO Dani?le (TIGNES - FRANCE, 6 Mar, 2003): LA PIGNATTA - italian restaurant - pizzeria. I want to recommand you in Tignes - Le valclaret village - a lovely restaurant to eat italian food, pasta, pizza, or savoyard specialities in a savoyard decor - 479 06 55 43 http://perso.wanadoo.fr/la pignatta

Maggie Dale (U.K., 9 Oct, 2002): The Blue Girl is the Best ski nightclub ever!! Lily and her staff are a dream and don't miss the lingerie night. It's cool!

nic (greece, 31 Jan, 2000): Le Brasero - Great Bar & Restaurant, had a ball there on our last night (the friday bash) and watched loads of sports n ski movies.
