I know these are meant for Climbing but I use them for skate skiing and also skating and they work great. These fit low on the waist and have pockets for storage which is really convenient.

Lightweight, thorn proof and comfortable
These pants are a light softshell, with great stretch and thornproof ... I should clarify, they do not get ripped or pulled threads from thorns ... the thorns still get your legs! Loose enough to be comfortable with light long underwear under, and you need it if temps are cold. I've warn them in temps between 15 - 50F and I think they would be ok into the high 60s, but at 20 light long johns were welcome. They don't have a peach fuzz interior of some softshell. Nice stretch. Would be nice if they came in petities for the height challenged 5'2" size small was a bit long, but with boots they are fine. Microchamois waist is very comfortable even under a waist strap.
