We took a water moc of pliable foot-friendly molded EVA with Merrell Air Cushion and started paring it into a cloud. Punched in wash-ready portals turned the heel counter into an airy backstay and carved out the forefoot for easy feel and mobility. Then added one-tug lacing. The non-marking Vibram Vapor sole got the same treatment: Cut away for lightness exposing the EVA upper but wrapping protectively over the toes and along the sidewalls with graduated gripping lugs.
