Whistler Blackcomb Review

I have to disagree with the conventional wisdom. I am an expert skier, my son is an advanced intermediate and my wife is a perpetual beginner. I tried for three days to find an area for my wife to ski to no avail.

The greens were all either very short and icy or had sections that I would consider blue and beyond her comfort level. She was also made uneasy by the intersecting black and blue trails which supplied a constant stream of advanced riders cutting through the green trails. She skied for only about a half day of the five we were there.

When I tried to ride with my son, who is a snowboarder, things were only slightly better. I wanted to stick to blues so that I didn't stumble into blacks that were beyond his ability. We found the trail system rather confusing.

There was no place that I found that you could ride a blue from the top of the gondola to the base without using either a black or a green to link between moderate length blues. The greens frequently flattened out or even went uphill requiring me to pole and my son to come out of one binding and do that hippity-hop thing that boarders do.

The village was nice and there were adequate restaurants, but everything was very expensive even by ski resorts standards. Overall I did enjoy the trip, but there are several mountains I like better and I don't anticipate going back.
