Serfaus ReviewResort Review for SerfausSerfaus ReviewSubmitted by: Ken Lee from Hong Kong on 10/19/09We just skied at Serfaus (Dec 2007). It has been a dry winter in Austria and not much snow fell during the 10 days we were there.
But the snow at Serfaus was in excellent condition as it was very cold (no wind) and most of the piste/runs were not in the direct sunshine. Believe it or not, the snow was better at Serfaus than at St Anton (the premier ski resort in Austria).
Off piste skiing was excellent. The powder was still reasonably good and the mountains were as steep as any in Austria. And there weren't many skiers skiing off piste, so most of the snow was not tracked out (this is uncommon as Austria has the best skiers in the world and they love their powder!).
We will definitely go back when there is a huge dump of fresh powder. We don't think that we will be disappointed with the skiing. We know that Serfaus has potential to be one of the top ski resorts in Austria. It's probably the best kept secret so far.
The underground train which ran from the parking lot to the main gondola area was fantastic. This is probably the only modern underground train system in the world's top ski resorts which runs on a cushion of air.
The village is quaint but not much in term of apres ski activities except for the ubiquitous ski huts serving beer, etc with very loud music. So if you're looking for wild apres ski excitement, Serfaus is not the spot to go (go to Mooserwirts at St Anton or Crazy Daisy at Zell Am See).
We had a fabulour dinner at a Greek and Italian restaurant called Elgi which is right in the middle of the village and hard to miss. The thought of having Meditereanean food (such as souvalaki) in a ski resort is almost unthinkable but the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff made the entire evening enjoyable. And the price is very reasonable. More resort reviews for Serfaus |
