Samnaun is an anomaly not only in this collection of ski resorts but also in geography and history. Part of Switzerland, it is one of those resorts which are only reachable via a foreign county, and thus boasts a coveted duty-free status. Samnaun consists of four different hamlets (Compatsch, Laret, Ravaisch and Dorf) which can only be reached via road or skis from Austria. The resort is accessed from the Inn valley road between Landeck and the Reschen Pass. The attractive village also boasts great skiing with its connection to the Ischgl Silvretta ski area and has a high-speed double-decker cable car to whisk its guests to the Alp Trida saddle with its intermediate skiing in a bowl below.
