India has a number of ski areas, with most located in the state of Kashmir. The history of skiing in India dates back to the days of British colonial rule, when the British established Gulmarg resort in Kashmir.

Gulmarg started to draw international tourism in the late 1980's, but that effort has faded because of the political tension in Kashmir between India and Pakistan so caution is advised. That said, India has a reputation for some of the best (and cheapest) heli-skiing in the world. A true off-pisters dream.
